MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE: NEW ANIMAL WELFARE MANUAL.
The new standard aims to implement the necessary conditions to promote the welfare of each species: cattle, buffalo, poultry and aquatic animals.
With the issuance of Resolution 00253 (October 29) “whereby the Animal Welfare Conditions Manual is adopted” for each of the production species of the Agricultural Sector, the aim is to guarantee the actions of protection, welfare and humane treatment as expressed in the manual.
The regulation establishes that all natural and legal persons owning production properties or holding these species must be trained and fully adopt each point of the regulation, which is mandatory.

For its part, the ICA (Colombian Agricultural Institute) will develop a methodology to effectively evaluate animal welfare conditions, responding to basic principles such as repeatability and ease.
Among the cases contemplated is that of cattle, since they must take into account the productive, health and, of course, animal welfare aspects. Those cattle that are chosen to be taken to new environments must go through a process of adaptation to the ecosystem.
Once the resolution enters into force, the persons to whom this regulation applies will have a maximum period of 36 months to comply with and fully implement each of the aspects contemplated therein.
